On the afternoon of September 22, the Chinese-built vessel “Yuanjinhai”, carrying 390,200 tons of Brazilian iron ore, smoothly rode the tide through the new route in the central Bohai Sea and safely berthed at the ore terminal of Caofeidian Port Area, Tangshan Port, Hebei. This marks the successful opening of the “new channel” of the deep-water route for 400,000-ton-class giant vessels entering and leaving the Bohai Sea, further enhancing the stability of domestic and international logistics industry and supply chains.

It is understood that 400,000-ton-class vessels are known as the “giants” of the sea. The Chinese-built “Yuanjinhai” has an enormous transport capacity — a single ship can carry the equivalent load of 6,666 railway wagons. Caofeidian Port Area has the only 400,000-ton-class ore terminal in Bohai Bay. To enable ultra-large vessels to enter and leave Bohai Bay safely at full load, the Hebei Maritime Safety Administration, the Beihai Navigation Guarantee Centre, Caofeidian Port Group and COSCO Shipping set up a joint task force and identified a new route with sufficient water depth for the safe full-load navigation of 400,000-ton-class vessels, thus opening the “new channel” of the deep-water route for ultra-large vessels in the Bohai Sea.

At the same time, the Hebei Maritime Safety Administration accelerated the building of an integrated “land-sea-air-space” water transport support system in Bohai Bay and developed an “intelligent perception and supervision platform for the safe navigation of ultra-large vessels”, enabling full-process tracking and escort of 400,000-ton-class vessels sailing in the Bohai Sea.
